Microneedling & Chemical Peels: Pre-Care & Aftercare Regimen

Pre-Care (Before Microneedling Treatment)

Start preparing your skin at least 1 week before the procedure to ensure the best results and reduce the risk of irritation or complications.

1-2 Weeks Before Treatment:

● Avoid Retinoids & Exfoliants – Stop using retinol, AHAs (glycolic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), and any harsh exfoliating products.

● Consult About Medications - Some acne or skin medications (like Accutane) may need to be paused.

● No Tanning or Excessive Sun Exposure – Protect your skin from UV damage by wearing SPF 30+ daily.

● Pause Blood Thinners – If approved by your doctor, avoid aspirin, and ibuprofen, which can increase bruising risk.

● Hydrate & Moisturize – Keep your skin well-hydrated with a gentle moisturizer.

24-48 Hours Before Treatment:

● No Active Skincare Ingredients – Avoid Vitamin C, retinoids, or strong acids.

● Skip Makeup & Heavy Creams – Let your skin breathe before the treatment.

● Hydrate Well – Drink plenty of water to improve skin resilience.

● No Shaving or Waxing - Do not shave or wax area to be treated on the day of procedure.

Aftercare (Post-Microneedling Recovery)

Your skin will be more sensitive and need gentle care for 7-10 days post-procedure.

First 24-48 Hours:

● Avoid Touching Your Face – Your skin is open and healing. Keep hands off!

● No Makeup or Skincare Products – Stick to a gentle, hydrating serum if advised by your aesthetic provider..

● Use a Gentle Cleanser – Wash with lukewarm water and a non-irritating cleanser (avoid scrubs or exfoliants).

● Stay Out of the Sun – No direct sunlight.

● No Sweating or Exercise – Avoid the gym, saunas, and anything that can cause excessive sweating.

Days 3-7:

● Peeling Will Begin - Expect flaking and dryness; do NOT pick at it.

● Introduce a Mild Moisturizer – Hydration is key (look for ceramides or hyaluronic acid).

● Apply Sunscreen (SPF 30+ Daily) – Protect your skin to prevent hyperpigmentation and continue avoiding direct sun exposure.

● No Exfoliation Yet – Let your skin heal naturally; expect some mild peeling.

Days 7-10:

● Slowly Reintroduce Actives – Start using gentle Vitamin C or Niacinamide to boost results, but avoid strong retinoids for at least 2 weeks.

● Continue Hydrating & Protecting – Moisturizer and sunscreen are your best friends!
